The Nigerian Branch of the International Fiscal Association

The International Fiscal Association (IFA) was established in 1938 with its headquarters in Netherlands. IFA was created with the aim to encourage research on international tax issues specifically the financial and economic aspects of taxation. IFA has played an essential role both in the development of certain principles of international taxation and in providing possible solutions to problems arising in their practical implementation.

IFA Nigeria Branch was established in 2017. Thereafter, IFA Nigeria Branch was recognized and confirmed as being the 72nd Branch of the IFA by the IFA General Council during its meeting on 5 September 2018 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Our goal has been to bring Nigerian professionals and Nigeria’s concerns to the global forums of international taxation.

IFA Nigeria Branch operates as a non-governmental and non-sectoral organisation dealing with fiscal matters. Its formal objectives are the study and advancement of international and comparative law while taking cognisance of public finance, the financial and economic aspects of taxation in Nigeria.

Although, the operations of IFA Nigeria Branch are essentially scientific in character in line with the founding guidelines of its headquarters, the subjects selected during its forums take account of local and international fiscal developments and changes in current legislation. Specifically, the role of IFA Nigeria Branch is to influence discussions and engage with policy makers on international and local tax issues before they become enacted in legislation.

IFA Nigeria Branch offers the necessary forum to experts from different sectors of the Nigerian community and elsewhere, (professional , business and governmental,) to exchange opinions in the spirit of the public interest rather than client advocacy on topics of international and local taxation while respecting each other’s background and responsibilities.
